Over 3100 Flights Axed and Deferred Across Europe as Severe Weather Causes Disruptions, Affecting Air France, Air Canada, America, Delta, Swiss, United, LATAM Brasil and More Airlines at Amsterdam, Athens, Geneva and Barcelona Airports

Severe weather conditions have caused over 3,100 flight cancellations and delays across Europe, disrupting air travel on a significant scale. Airlines such as Air France, Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta, Swiss, United, LATAM Brasil, and many others have been impacted by these disruptions. Major airports including Amsterdam Schiphol, Athens International, Geneva Cointrin, and Barcelona International are facing operational challenges due to heavy storms, strong winds, and adverse weather conditions. These weather-related issues have led to long delays, cancellations, and rerouting of flights, particularly affecting international and transatlantic travel. The widespread disruptions are leaving passengers stranded and causing ripple effects throughout the aviation network, with airlines working to manage rebookings and mitigate further delays.

Amsterdam Schiphol reported a total of 372 delays yesterday, with 25 affecting U.S.-bound flights. The airport also saw 7 cancellations, including 1 from the United States. KLM, the primary airline at the airport, was hit the hardest, with 171 delays and 3 cancellations. Other airlines, including German Airways and Cathay Pacific, also faced significant disruptions, highlighting the strain caused by bad weather at one of Europe’s busiest hubs.

Key Affected Airlines at Amsterdam Schiphol:

Athens International recorded 389 delays, with 10 of those affecting U.S.-bound flights. There were 5 cancellations, 1 of which involved a U.S.-based route. EasyJet and Aegean Airlines experienced the highest disruption, with a combined total of 126 delays. Delta Air Lines, Air France, and Lufthansa were also affected, underscoring the widespread impact of the weather on travel.

Key Affected Airlines at Athens International:

Barcelona International saw a total of 340 delays and 7 cancellations, with EasyJet once again experiencing the highest disruption, accounting for 13 delays and 5 cancellations. Other affected airlines included Air France and Ryanair, both of which saw delays impacting both European and international flights, particularly those to and from the United States.

Key Affected Airlines at Barcelona International:

Frankfurt International reported 439 delays and 8 cancellations, with Lufthansa leading the pack, accounting for over 200 of the delays. Although the number of cancellations was relatively low, the high volume of delays caused significant disruptions, especially for long-haul and transatlantic flights.

Key Affected Airlines at Frankfurt International:

Lisbon’s General Humberto Delgado Airport reported 370 delays and 2 cancellations. EasyJet was notably impacted, with 33 delays and 2 cancellations, while TAP Air Portugal, the national carrier, reported 157 delays, impacting travelers throughout Europe and beyond.

Key Affected Airlines at General Humberto Delgado Airport:

Geneva Cointrin International reported 127 delays and 8 cancellations. EasyJet led the list with 71 delays, while SAS Link and Swiss also experienced delays, though cancellations were relatively limited compared to other major airports.

Key Affected Airlines at Geneva Cointrin International:

Copenhagen reported 168 delays and 11 cancellations. SAS Link, Norwegian Air Shuttle, and Ryanair were the hardest hit carriers, reflecting the widespread effects of bad weather on both European and long-haul flights.

Key Affected Airlines at Copenhagen:

Dublin International faced 228 delays and 1 cancellation. Aer Lingus and Ryanair saw the largest disruptions, with Ryanair experiencing 129 delays and Aer Lingus reporting 35 delays. Despite the delays, cancellations remained relatively low at the airport.

Key Affected Airlines at Dublin International:

Bergen Flesland saw 76 delays and 2 cancellations. Norwegian Air Shuttle and SAS faced the most disruption, with several other European carriers also reporting delays.

Key Affected Airlines at Bergen Flesland:

Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris experienced 456 delays and 11 cancellations. Air France was significantly impacted, with 224 delays and 6 cancellations. Other airlines, including easyJet and Delta Air Lines, also faced delays, further affecting air travel throughout Europe.

Key Affected Airlines at Charles de Gaulle:

Severe weather across Europe has led to over 3,100 flight cancellations and delays, impacting airlines like Air France, Air Canada, Delta, Swiss, United, and LATAM Brasil at major airports including Amsterdam, Athens, Geneva, and Barcelona. These disruptions are caused by storms and adverse weather conditions, affecting air travel and causing widespread delays.

The ongoing bad weather has created significant operational challenges at major European airports. Schiphol, Athens, Barcelona, Frankfurt, and other key hubs have seen hundreds of delays and dozens of cancellations, impacting travelers’ plans across the continent. Travelers are advised to stay informed about flight statuses, allow for extra travel time, and check with their airlines regularly for updates on their journeys. These weather-related disruptions are likely to persist in the coming days, so flexibility is key for anyone flying out of these busy European airports.
